Good Manners Matter

Have you ever hesitated over which fork to use, wondered how to introduce yourself, or felt unsure what to say when joining a conversation?

These are familiar situations, and a little guidance can make such a difference. My aim is to help you understand what to do and why it matters, so that you can give your attention to the people around you.

Courtesy begins with consideration for others. With practice, those small acts of thoughtfulness become part of everyday life.

Together, We Will Explore How To:

Is This Course for You?

You are welcome whether you are learning these skills for the first time or would simply like a refresher. The course brings together lessons for different stages of life.

For Everyday & Professional Life

If you would like to feel more comfortable at a business meal, make a thoughtful first impression or enjoy social occasions with greater confidence, I will guide you in developing the etiquette skills to approach everyday and professional situations with confidence.

For Young People & Families

We cover school life, interviews, sportsmanship, friendships and respectful communication, helping young people develop skills they can carry into adulthood.

Families can explore the lessons together and put good manners into practice at home.

For Unfamiliar Social Situations

Learning the customs of a new setting can take time. Our sessions on introductions, visiting, dining and conversation offer a practical starting point for understanding Western social expectations.

What We Will Learn Together

Each session builds on the last, with practical examples to help you bring good manners into everyday situations. Please take your time and allow yourself opportunities to practise.

01The Foundations of Etiquette

We begin with consideration and respect: why manners matter, how to introduce yourself, and how to greet others with a warm handshake and a thoughtful welcome.

I will guide you through the table setting, the use of cutlery and napkins, passing dishes and conversation at the table, so that you can concentrate on enjoying the company.

We look more closely at speaking and eating with consideration for others. Learn how your words and behaviour can help make a shared meal pleasant for everyone.

Being invited into someone’s home is a pleasure. We explore how to be a considerate guest, acknowledge your host’s kindness and approach gift-giving thoughtfully. We also explore how to be a considerate host.

Whether you are preparing for a private-school, university or job interview, we consider appropriate dress, grooming, tone of voice and body language, alongside what you say.

We discuss respect for teachers, staff and fellow students, visiting a school or university, and showing fairness and good sportsmanship in games and competitions.

We consider respectful responses to teasing and bullying, and the importance of valuing yourself as well as others. Through role-play, we also practise offering a sincere apology.

Learn considerate telephone habits and when to put electronic devices aside. We also practise welcoming visitors and giving our attention to the people who are with us.

We explore thoughtful behaviour on buses, trains and aeroplanes, and the value of expressing thanks. I will also guide you through writing a gracious thank-you note.

We bring our learning together with starting, joining and leaving conversations courteously, public speaking and debating, and consideration for others at performances and events.

On completing the programme, you will receive a Certificate of Completion for Mastering the Art of Etiquette and Good Manners.

A Little About Me

I was born and educated in England, where good manners were part of family life. My training as a British nanny, followed by a career in corporate business in Canada, has given me experience of the many ways courtesy matters, both at home and at work.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and am a Certified Children’s Etiquette Trainer and Certified Breakthrough Coach. Today, I help individuals, families and organisations put courteous life skills into practice.

It is always a pleasure to see someone feel more at ease as their understanding grows. That is what I hope to help you achieve through this course.

An Experience I Treasure

Etiquette Consultant on The BFG

I had the honour of advising the cast and crew of Steven Spielberg’s The BFG on etiquette in the Royal household, helping them bring authenticity to the scenes.

The same care and attention to detail inform my teaching, whatever the occasion.

A Few Kind Words

I am grateful to the clients who have shared their experiences of my private lessons and workshops.
